Oh well... Don't judge this article by its title. I am in no mood to make fun out of the great MJ. Especially not after his sudden death. Its a tradition to speak good about a person after his death... however mortal bad or evil he/she might have been. But MJ was neither!
BTW - the title... just a local mumbaiya version of Michael Jackson. There are lot more.. for instance... Arnold Shivajinagar... Roger More.. so on... Hmmm.. don't know if MJ ever heard about Mai-ka-lal-jai-kisan.. Guess if he would have.. he would have said.. "Aaww... Jus Beat it..!!" Common MJ.. Please dont think "they don really care about us.." Its just our tiny way of showing luv n affection.
"Do you remember the time... How it all began...??"
I was never a great MJ fan as such. I still aint. Still... growing up listening to his songs... one couldn't just ignore them. Back in school, even though none of us really understood the entire lyrics of his Black or White... we liked it... we knew the tune by heart... the music... the tag line of the song... It don matter if u r black or white.. and then luved the video.. towards the end especially where new faces 'emerged' out of existing faces!
That was a time when the 'electronic revolution' hadn't spread in all homes. I was one of the very few who had a 'two-in-one'... on which we could copy songs from one cassette to another. And there was this friend of mine who was a break dancer... or that was what he claimed to be... we never really understood what he broke other than his parents' heart by not concentrating on studies! Any ways, so this guy used to come to my house to 'fuse music' for his dances. And I in turn... used to get english songs for free!!! Scatman's world... cotton eye joe... some of my favourites at those times.. In this process I once managed to get 3-4 MJ nos. And I fell for it...
"Get on the floor... and dance with me..."
Yes.. thats exactly what MJ did to Mumbai.. when he was here on his only visit to India... I remember it was at Andheri sports complex... I was too young to understand that people go crazy to be at such concerts and watch him perform live... Then there was this act by Johnny Lever where he made fun of all the young gals who had turned up at the event and fainted after having a glance at MJ... That wasnt really the 'culture' I grew up in.. But for some... Not having watched MJ live on stage was probably the biggest sin of their lives...
Oh.. ya.. My uncle had kinda listened to the show for free... he lived in Andheri then.. his house wasn't really near the venue of the concert as such... but remember him telling me how loud the 'sound systems' were - he could hear the bass.. the beats and a few of MJ's screams sitting in his drawing room!!
"Look what have we done to the world..." (Earth song... coool)
Hmm... I wonder if MJ would have said to himself this.. "look what have I done to my world.." getting in to controversies.. more often than not. Most widely publicised being his affection towards the kids! Well.. I won't touch up on that... And then... we almost had another one being made out of his death!! Some speculations about the time of his death as well.. Some said the news was made public pretty late.. after he actuly died. Then there were those who refused to believe he was dead.. Hmm.. Here one of our very smart news reporters made a valid point.. When Elvis Presley was dead, his fans refused to believe it and 'kept him alive' for some time after his death.. May be MJ's fans tried to do some thing similar.. But this morning's news papers say its nothing... No controversies what-so-ever! Thank God!!
"You Rock my World.."
I heard that he was planning his 'come-back' tour or concert... Hmmm.. guess we missed a really good event... Given the scale at which shows for some of the lesser known artists are held these days... he would have really "Rocked the world"..
"Only god could decide... Who will live and who will die.."
These are the lyrics from one of his songs... (which I haven't heard of..).. I read it in some user comments on a news article..
I guess God has made his choice... for now!!
